I am not a very gadget oriented guy, but today I finally splurged on a digital SLR: the Canon EOS 5D. Prepare for photo madness.
This also inspired me to finally set up the 160gb LaCie d2 Extreme I picked up a month ago. I've been riding at 1GB free on the Powerbook, afraid to even download the latest pictures from my Canon SD550. Amazingly, I just plugged it in, turned it on, connected the Firewire 800 cable to it and my Powerbook, and voila. Who knew? And after dragging my iTunes folder over to the new drive, waiting for 10,000 songs to be copied, restarting iTunes, changing the location of the iTunes folder, restarting iTunes, and deleting the original folder, I recovered 33GB of space.
I'm looking forward to the digital SLR, especially for the upcoming trip. Of course I will get some nice lenses. But I just ordered some fun cheapo lenses from Loreo, including the awesome 3D Lens in a Cap! I also ordered twenty of the cheapo viewers so I can send them around the family.
I love stereo photos. I have a great book filled with stereo photos of Egypt from the 1920's. Who cares if the lens is cheesy, it's 3-D!
