Amnesia
So much to do to get ready. Tying up loose ends at work. Taxes. Trip planning.
So instead of doing any of that, I indulged in an incredible evening, starting with the Golden Apple at 42nd Street Moon, featuring Carly, Nina, and Kat, and what a pleasure to be in the audience. I can see why this show has not had a big revivial, though. It's got some good characters and a couple of great numbers (Lazy Afternoon), but on the whole it feels like a show created as a vehicle for exotic sets more than for plot. On the other hand, the Odyssey is one of my most frequently read books (I like to read random passages while in my "office" if you know what I mean), so the (admittedly very light) adaptation of that material was personally appealing.
Later I went down to the Mission. The Elbo Room had a succession of bands that didn't appeal, but Amnesia had a great group, Stateless, with five musicians playing modern Arabic fusion backed up by a drum machine. The violinist couldn't help but lend a fun Irish accent to the music, and at one point they were explicit about this. Very danceable! They'll be playing May 20th at the Liquor Lounge (?) in East Bay and if I'm back by then I'll be there.
After Stateless, a DJ came on who quickly got a great vibe going, so we danced until about 1:30 in the morning, which I think (incredibly) is the first time since Burning Man. Leaving, I thought I should definitely find the beach raves in Southeast Asia or Goa at some point in this trip...
This morning it is finally a beautiful day, finally! and my run out around Land's End was great.
So now I finally need to turn to the work, taxes, and planning.
