Burning Man
Hard to believe it took me this long to get out there to the playa. What an amazing experience. Arriving in the midst of a white-out dust storm, it's like stepping into our post-apocalyptic future. Building my shade structure (see below) tapped into some fundamental male impulse to construct shelter from the elements. Overprovisioned as I was, I couldn't even eat the food I brought as neighbors insisted I join them for their excellent meals. Lots of friends, lots of art, lots of dancing, but the playa at night is beyond description.
It doesn't matter what photos you've seen you will still be stunned by the scale of what is going on out in the desert. Bring your bike and be prepared to see the sun rise. I think I had a total of 14 hours of sleep over four nights.
